Plus-Minus Social Network for Children and Youth

The use of social networking sites reaping a lot of criticism, as the number of negative cases that occur in the real world involving such services.

Not always a social networking site always be bad for children and adolescents. Actually, all the back to each individual. If used in a positive way then the result will be good, and vice versa. Back again, the family plays an important role to control the child's activity on the internet. Like what positive effects / negative?

Positive effects:

- Children and teens can learn to develop technical and social skills that are needed in today's digital era. They will learn how to adapt, socialize with the public and managing a network of friends.

- Expanding the network of friends. Thanks to social networking sites, children become more easy to make friends with others around the world, although most of whom they've never met in person.

- Children and young people will be motivated to learn to develop themselves through friends they met online, because here they interact and receive feedback from each other.

- Social networking sites make children and teenagers become more friendly, caring and empathy. For example, pay attention when they have a friend's birthday, comment on photos, videos and status of their friends, keep a friendly relationship, although not able to meet physically.

Negative effects:

- Children and adolescents become lazy to learn to communicate in the real world. Level of understanding of the language becomes impaired. If the child is too much communication in the virtual world, the knowledge of the intricacies of communicating in real life - such as body language and tone of voice - to be reduced.

- Social networking sites will make children and adolescents more selfish. They become aware of the environment around them, because most of the time spent on the internet. This can result in children being less empathetic in the real world.

- Social networking sites make children and adolescents vulnerable to sensation.

- For children and adolescents, there are no rules of spelling and grammar on the social networking site. This will make them more difficult to distinguish between communicating on social networking sites and in the real world. This is certainly going to affect their writing skills at school in terms of spelling and grammar.

- Social networking sites are fertile ground for predators to commit a crime. We will never know if someone new our children on the internet, using a real identity.
